BOTOX® Cosmetic in Washington, DC
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA approved neuromodulator treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet lines, and forehead lines in adults.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of facial lines—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will typically begin to notice visible smoothing of your facial lines within 3-7 days of treatment, with full results appearing within 10-14 days.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet. BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity.
Results After BOTOX® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic begins working to relax the muscles as soon as the procedure is complete. The final results of BOTOX® Cosmetic become apparent after about a week and last up to four months. Patients are amazed with the results that BOTOX® Cosmetic injections provide and typically experience a boost in confidence knowing that they appear noticeably more youthful.
Recovery After BOTOX® Cosmetic
After the BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is complete, the injected area(s) may temporarily appear red. This is normal, and skin irritation usually subsides in just a few hours. Dr. Carter may also instruct patients to do the following during the first 24 to 48 hours:
- Avoid touching the treated sites in order to prevent BOTOX® Cosmetic from spreading to other parts of the face
- Limit physical activity and exercise
- Do not consume large amounts of alcohol
- Avoid taking blood thinning medications, such as aspirin
- Patients should avoid laying down for the first 4 hours post procedure
